Texas voters just approved major property tax relief bill - let’s get into it:
What changed for Texas homeowners:
Homestead exemption for school taxes increased
Increase from $100,000 → $140,000 of a home’s value now exempt from school district property taxes.
Extra relief for seniors and disabled homeowners
A separate voter-approved measure boosts tax cuts for:
Homeowners 65+
Homeowners with disabilities
These groups will see larger reductions than standard homeowners.
Why it matters to you
Lowers annual carrying costs of homeownership (especially on mid-priced homes)
How Texas stacks up
This tax relief plan is similar to states like Iowa, Florida and Georgia - cutting property taxes to offset rising home values
Texas has committed ~$51B over the next 2 years to backfill lost revenue from the approved cuts

Downtown Lockhart is getting ready for a refresh
City leaders are planning a major reconfiguration to capitalize on Austin’s growth.
