The Fed said we should expect 3 rate cuts in 2024
Yesterday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said inflation is ānot farā from where it needs to be for the central bank to start cutting interest rates.
āWeāre waiting to become more confident that inflation is moving sustainably at 2%. When we do get that confidenceā¦itāll be appropriate to dial back.ā
Futures traders initially predicted the Fed would start cutting rates in March and keep cutting 6 or 7 times in the year. Now the speculation is the first cut will come in June with 4 total reductions equaling a full percentage point by end of 2024.
