The Fed said we should expect 3 rate cuts in 2024

Yesterday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said inflation is ā€œnot farā€ from where it needs to be for the central bank to start cutting interest rates.

ā€œWeā€™re waiting to become more confident that inflation is moving sustainably at 2%. When we do get that confidenceā€¦itā€™ll be appropriate to dial back.ā€

Futures traders initially predicted the Fed would start cutting rates in March and keep cutting 6 or 7 times in the year. Now the speculation is the first cut will come in June with 4 total reductions equaling a full percentage point by end of 2024.
